What are the startup costs and what do they include?

Currently the range of investment is from $351,425 to $537,350 which includes the $35,000 initial franchise fee. The rest of the estimated costs include all of the expenses to launch The Happy Mixer bakery in your local area, including your equipment, construction costs, 3rd party professional advisory fees, insurance and 3-months of working capital.

I do not have that kind of money saved, but I would still love to own my own Happy Mixer location?

Great news, you do not need to have all that money sitting in a bank account! In fact, we did not have all the money either when we opened our first location.

Think of it like buying a house. You just need a down payment. In this instance, it is approximately 25-30% (Roughly $100K). We then help you secure financing (like a mortgage) for the balance through our lending partners.

Keep in mind when you buy a home, you must go to work and use the money to pay your home mortgage bill. If you buy a business like The Happy Mixer, the bakery ideally would be able to pay off your loan, while you receive a nice income on top of that! Now that is a sweet deal!

If you do not have enough money for the down payment, perhaps you could partner with a friend or family member. Maybe someone in your family would like to invest in you!

I have never owned a franchise business before; can you explain how it works?

Absolutely! You would essentially be buying a business and using our proven systems, recipes, and brand recognition to operate an already successful business model. It provides you with a tremendous head start and the opportunity to be trained and supported by our team of experts in all facets of running the bakery, including everything from baking to hiring, marketing, and bookkeeping! How big is the typical bakery?

Between 1,600 and 2,000 square feet with adequate parking and drive by traffic. We have specific site criteria which we will review with you and help you evaluate real estate for The Happy Mixer bakery.

How long does it take to open?

This depends how quickly you find a lease location for your bakery. You do not need to build a bakery from the ground up, but you will lease space in a variety of storefront or free-standing spaces available in your market. We help owners evaluate real estate, with step-by-step guidance to help fit out The Happy Mixer bakery. Once you sign your lease, you may be able to open in as little as 3 to 6 months.

Do all the recipes have to be gluten free?

Yes…this is our cornerstone and commitment to our customers. In addition to offering 100% gluten free products, we also offer a variety of dairy free, soy free and nut free options as well as several items that re also vegan. Your staff will also not be permitted to consume or bring foods into the bakery that contain gluten.

Do I have to be an owner operator?

We prefer our owners to be involved in operations. Ideally, owners will oversee day-to-day operations of the bakery while focusing on training, marketing, development and community outreach. Your goal will be to train and support your team, while having them bake and serve customers directly.

Can I own more than one bakery?

Yes. We believe qualified owners can own and operate multiple bakeries.

How many people should be on the team in the bakery?

Typically, between 8 and 10 employees to start, adding staff as you develop your bakery following.

How much will the business make in a year?

We will be able to share with you our Financial Performance Representation, called an Item 19, in our Franchise Disclosure Document which highlights affiliate performance and history. This can be a useful tool to help you evaluate the revenue potential for The Happy Mixer in your local area.
